Terminal services server for home

Thread Starter
Hi all,

Let me first start out by saying that I don't know much tongue.gif.

I was thinking it might be neat to have a PC in my garage and the the basement to start. I was curious to see if there are any free solutions for creating virtual desktops using a thin client (something I assume I can pickup for not much off of fleabay) instead of building another PC or two plus I might accidentally learn something. The system specs of the server I currently use which has VMWare 5.1 should allow for at least one or two sessions I would imagine.

I have available to me Windows Server 2012 Data Center from my University. I would imagine this is where I would start. I somehow feel as if licensing would be something I need to take into account. I prefer since this is a home test type project, not to have to pay for licensing.

Where do I go from here?

Why not just have one PC say the room you are in most then use a thin client just to remote desktop into it? if its just for checking email, irc and such not for gaming afaik (assuming its windows 7 Pro or above)

Yeah, this is as good of a solution as anything, if you are just doing task work.

If you do want a free VDI solution, there are a few Open Source VDI/App Delivery solutions out there:

http://cantivo.org/

Those are the two that come to mind for me.
