XFX 7970 3GB Dual Fan (Fan Failure Dilemma)

Thread Starter
Hello guys, so basically I acquired a XFX 7970 at a very good price from a friend only 6 month old in pristine shape. Fast forward 2 days I start to hear this noise and from further inspection in happened to be one of the 2 fans that is vibrating and from furthur research its common on this model (One pointing towards the IO ports).

My friend has another exact same card but this one has a Arctic Cooling Accelero Hybrid 7970 cooling system installed in it which I could talk him to swap for my card. As a second option He offered to give me the stock cooler on that card in which I could just take one of the fans and replace the faulty one on my card, as a third solution I could call XFX and they would ship me a new heat sink and fans in order to replace it on my card.

Here is the thing, the card with the Accelero Hybrid 7970 would be good in a way that it offers better cooling capacity and such, but bad in a way that if the card fails at some point I doubt I will have any warranty since the screws on the backplate have a sticker that once tampered warranty is void also the VR heat sinks provided with the Accelero Hybrid 7970 are glued to the VRas well as the risk of the system leaking (Closed loop), not sure how future proof this solution is either.

What would you guys do in this situation?

Oscar

Well If you want to install the accelero. Contact XFX and ask if taking off stock cooler voids the warranty. I know it doesn't void it on my asus gtx 680s unless something gets physically damaged.

Also look for accelero reviews and see if people have them leak...

I would imagine they are failry good, as in Japan ELSA sells the accelero preinstalled onto the card.
or they did around launch at least

with XFX it's a high possibility otherwise, you can use a hairdryer and probably lift up the stickers slowly thumb.gif
