OP, I would take a closer look at the pins and see if they are bent or completely broken off. That should help determine your next course of action.
If they are bent then I would first attempt to repair them. I end up repairing sockets all of the time at work and as long as you are careful you should get everything working again. I am unsure of your location but I would be happy to help if it's possible.
If repairing the pins does not work then you are still in the same situation where you need to get it replaced by ASUS.
If the pins are indeed broken off then I would just go with your original plan straight away and send it in for repairs.
