Need help choosing two drives for gaming PC...

Hi, so today my pc started giving me S.M.A.R.T. errors telling me my C: drive needs to be replaced, no biggie, my issue right now is I know very little on the subject and I decided to pick up two drives, one HDD for the OS and also an SSD for steam/games while im at it.

I'm thinking about any of these two:

For the OS:

1TB Western Digital Caviar Black:

http://www.newtekuy.com/catalog/disco-duro-western-digital-caviar-black-wd1002faex-sata-64mb-7200-p-4182.html

2TB Seagate Barracuda:

http://www.newtekuy.com/catalog/disco-duro-seagate-barracuda-st2000dm001-sata-64mb-cache-7200rpm-p-9351.html

For games:

*Haven't decided yet. redface.gif Any suggestions are more than welcome, but I don't think I need more than 150gb since I don't play more than two or three games at a time.

Personally, i've heard great things about the caviar black, I basically need to know if these are compatible with my mobo (my rig is on my signature). Also, im planning to upgrade to a 4770k in the next few months so that'll require a new mobo as well, just something to take into account.

Any suggestions/thoughts/ideas??

Thanks in advance.

I would personally get the 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black for the sole reason that these are "built for to be abused" and also they're faster, more reliable and can handle higher temps than the Barracuda this by long experience I know.

Currently I have eight 1TB WDC Blacks as files and movie storage, also I seriously seldom turn off my computer. Also I can suggest the WDC Black Enterprise Class drives, these are the more badass brother of the WDC Black. Got two of these enterprise class as well and I can say, I wished I had more of these as well.

Thanks for your reply, I guess the WD Caviar Black it is then.

I was thinking on getting a 128gb Crucial M4 for steam/games, any opinions on the matter?

Here's what I would do if I were you (just my 2 cents). I would get a 256 gb ssd--any of the ssds sean recommends that's on sale (search sean's ssd guide here on ocn). I would put the OS on the SSD for sure--it will speed up your computer something fierce. I would get a WD black 1 or 2 tb (my Seagate barracuda lasted 9 months) for data and games--then use steam mover to move games on and off your SSD. So if you are playing 2-3 games currently--move them over to the SSD, then when your finished, move them back to the HDD and replace with a new game.

The Black is a great drive, don't get me wrong, however you should consider the 1TB Caviar Blue EZEX. The Black is better for running an OS, yet the Blue has faster sequential reads and writes, which is what you want for games.

Also I would reverse the tasks of your drives. My recommendation is getting a 128 to 256GB SSD for your OS and your favorite games, then a 1TB EZEX for everything else and your games which are less played.

The only influence that an HDD or SSD has on your gaming experience is your loading time. The difference in loading times between an SSD and a Blue EZEX is hardly noticeable.

You'll save money and have a better experience if you go with an SSD for boot drive and a few games, then a speedy HDD for everything else.

Western digital for the hard drives (black or blue are fine).

For the SSDs, go with Samsung 840 (Pro?), or another driver which can get ~500mb/s read or more. writes are not as important, but if you can get one with more that 300, your golden.

I would also suggest putting your games on the hard drive, and running your is on the SSD, you will notice the speed more IMO.
