Socket LGA 775 overclock.

Hello,

I bought a lower-end gaming desktop off ebay. The mobo is a Gigabyte EP43-DS3L DDR2 with a Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 @ 2.6Ghz. I had to replace the Thermaltake Blue Orb 2 CPU Cooler with a Master Cooler Hyper TX3 due to poor shipping/packaging. It has a single HDD, and a single CD/DVD burner, and an AMD Radeon HD 7770. Power supply is a Cooler Master 500Watt Extreme. It only has 2x2GB PC2-6400 of RAM, I will need to upgrade to faster RAM. I am looking to overclock to 3.2Ghz. The seller told me I can get it to 3.35Ghz with the RAM I have, but if I upgrade to faster RAM I am supposed to be able to overclockup to 3.8Ghz. I can't seem to find any Overclocking FAQs on this site, I would really like some information on how to go about doing this. I am really new to overclocking but not new to computer hardware. Any help/advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I know this outside the forum, but LSDmeASAP is a member here too, and this is a good guide.

I have afew of there 775 boards.. if the board takes DDR2 800Mhz ram then you can also use 1066Mhz as it will run at 800Mhz also but will give you headroom on overclocking as you have to keep the ram with-in rated speeds vs fsb speeds and divider used to scale the cpu up. I ran a e5200 at 3.98 Ghz with 1.38v but fsb wall is around 310 to 320 give or take.

Okay, guys. That link has been really helpful. I'm trying to find the timings for my RAM. CPU-Z kind of confuses me about the actual timings. Here's a pic. According to the Memory pic it looks like 5-5-18-46 but that can't be right.

I went into the BIOS and figured out the timings. My board says it supports Dual Channel RAM. Under the specs of the board on the Gigabyte site it says it supports DDR2 1200+/1066/800/667 Memory Modules. I thought DDR2 can only go up to 1066Mhz, so what's the deal with the 1200+ spec? I can't find any DDR2 RAM with that speed, so I assume it doesn't exist, but the board supports it? Can someone enlighten me on this? So far I have gotten a solid 3.0Ghz overclock which I am fine with until I upgrade my RAM.
