Unable to Reset a Generic Tablet

Thread Starter
A friend of mine is a computer repair tech. He had a customer send him an unbranded, generic tablet running an Android OS because the guy forgot the password. After a while the guy said he could just keep it. Well my friend couldn't access the service mode so I gave it a shot and failed as well.

When you hold the power button and the volume up button or the volume down button for 10 seconds, an Android bot appears on the screen but has a red "error" triangle appearing above it and nothing happens. We figured this is how you enter the service mode but perhaps it just isn't there?

Anyone have any thoughts?
