i have a question about voltage core

Thread Starter
hello im overclocking my amd phenom 9500 stock 2.2Ghz cpu and it looks like i might have to incrtease the mobo voltage core in my bios my question is how do i figure out how much voltage core my mobo can handle im using an ami bio and an asus M2R32-MVP mobo everything in the bios is still stocked i havent overclocked yet so how much v core can my mobo handle im using a 380 watt psu and an 8800gts 512 bfg factory overcloced gpu thanks

You'll be limited by VRM section on the MB, it has no cooling and many stages. Stock CPU cooler is going to be limiting factor too. Due to many factors you have to try a bit by bit to OC. First try to OC just without touching voltages and only than when it becomes unstable, up the voltage by smallest amount, watch temperatures closely using software and by touching parts. I don't think anybody can tell you exactly how far you can go even if somebody has the same components. Once I got a 9550 up to 3.1 GhZ stable but on stronger MB.

^What he said. Figure out the highest stable clock you can get without a voltage bump as your baseline. Then bump the clock up and follow that up by small bumps to voltage until that new clock is stable, rinse and repeat. You may also have to make adjustments to nb/ram to achieve a stable overclock. I had to kick my ram down a step from 1600mhz to see a stable 4.0GHz on my 1100t.

It also helps to google search to see who else has overclocked that cpu and what numbers they came up with. You may or may not be able to achieve the same results but knowing what other people have done will help you figure out your own settings.

You should also use more than one stability test so your CPU is stressed in as many ways as possible. I use Prime95 + BFBC2 multiplayer + f@h. BFBC2 for some reason can find instabilities that don't show up in the popular stability tests like Prime95, at least in my experience.

I would't OC with such an old motherboard and CPU, you will probably make them die...
