Help me pick out a 2 speaker system around $600

Thread Starter
Hello all, I recently relocated to china and am shipping my computer over here minus speakers and a screen. I had the m audio av40s which I liked which was for general desktop use, listening to music/gaming. Now that I am out here I am going to get a set of speakers which will be used for music/gaming/movies and will be 6-7 feet away from where I will be in a small room. I have looked at the bx5 d2s, bx8 d2s( have a feeling these will be overkill for my room), but would like some recommendations including non powered speakers+ an amp. I think music is the most important aspect for me, and a toss up between gaming/movies/shows. I don't do any audio editing, but I do like good sounding speakers. When it comes to non powered speakers I have been out of the loop for a long time.

That's a very good budget for speakers. I'm assuming you're using a TV as a screen so floorstanding speakers are hopefully an option. Infinity P363 would work well if you live by a Frys Electronics. I'll let you know how good ARX speakers are this coming October when I'm able to get a pair if you have not gotten anything together by then. Other options are Polk (ebay store has RTi8 for $400 per pair),or Pioneer SP-FS52-LR can be done for about $300 I believe. I'm not sure about amplification - a Dayton DTA-100 would probably work, but if you can get a decent receiver for $100 from a local goodwill or something that would probably be best.

If floorstanding speakers aren't an option there is a plethora of bookshelf options. Polk, Infinity, ARX, Energy, HSU, Monitor Audio, and several other brands out there produce quality speakers within that budget range.

Be sure to check out the Recommended Audio Products thread for other advice and options: http://www.overclock.net/t/1014902/ocns-most-recommended-audio-products/0_20

EDIT: If you have any interest in 5.1 audio you could get the Jamo S426 5.0 setup, get a Dayton sub, and find a 5.1 receiver for under $200 as well as an alternate option. I have the Jamo set and for the price they sound pretty good.
