Dual Monitors on a 7770-DVI and Mini DisplayPort

Thread Starter
Hi all. I've been having some trouble using a second monitor with my 7770. The the moment, my main monitor is plugged in using the DVI port. I want to have a second monitor, and at the moment, I've tried using a Mini Displayport to VGA adapter. The card detects the second monitor, but as a Generic Non-PHP monitor and it doesn't let me change any settings for that monitor (resolution, refresh rate etc.)

My question is, what is the best option for dual monitors? I am using the HDMI port on my primary monitor for my XBOX, so DVI and HDMI isnt really an option. Is DVI then Mini DisplayPort to DVI and option? Does the adapter need to be active, or is passive alright?

Thanks in advance!!

If DVI and HDMI aren't an option, sounds like you'll have to use a DisplayPort adapter. You'll need to use an active one though.

So a Mini Displayport to DVI should work?

Yes. But does your secondary monitor not support HDMI? The cheapest and simplest solution would be to use the HDMI and DVI outputs.

If you go with the adapter. Just make sure it's active. I believe AMD has a list of recommended adapters on their website too.
