Computer name still tied to an old local IP address?

We have network sharing enabled on one of our computers on our network, that worked with out problem until I updated the network, taking the desktop off wireless and plugged it into a gigabit ethernet connection. Now it kinda works sometimes and most of the time doesn't. Some software such as Quickbooks heavily relies on the file sharing to work for multiple users, and this machine is the host machine.

The system runs off Windows 7 Professional, and from diagnostics of Quickbooks, it seems the computer name that I see on the network list, is tied to an older local IP address, different than what ipconfig brings up in command prompt on the machine. I can try to access it via computer name on my computer here (Windows 8) and I get an error that I cannot access it. However, when I manually direct the explorer to the appropriate IP, it goes in perfectly, to see the shared files.

So is there any way to fix the problem with the local IP being tied to the name? headscratch.gif

Yeah, we never changed computer names, just how the network was connected, and the local IP apparently changed too.

Well, that kinda sorta worked and broke multiuser mode on Quickbooks hosting services completely. blinksmiley.gif

Our laptop seems to access just fine (For the time being), it runs Windows 7. However, my desktop (Windows 8) seems to think it needs a username and password, which that is weird since I have that option off on the main host computer.

Quickbooks, gives the error here: http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/SLN40085

I had to disable it to even make it work on the host machine itself. (So we can still do work in it.)

How changing the computer name messed up that part on QuickBooks is beyond me. tongue.gif

Check hosts file for static entries.

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns

ping
ping

All of this supposed to be done on machines that are not able to access, not on one they are trying accessing.
