Speed Step Frequency not changing while enabled

Hi I had to clear my cmos so I unfortunately lost my original motherboard settings. Right now my big issue is getting Intel's Speed Step working. My Frequency is not moving from 1600 to 3300 like it should be. I have speed step enabled in the CPU settings. This is causing my computer to run much hotter (6-8c) Any ideas?

--- BUMP ---

Hello all. After talking with ASUS support for about 20-30 minutes the rep determined that it may be a bad "controller" as in timing controller or something else. So I reset the CMOS, updated my bios as the rep suggested, and neither helped. This is pissing me off because I am now idling at like 44 when ushually I idle at 35.

Could this really be a bad motherboard "controller"? I find it hard to believe that just my speed step is broken. What could I do at this point?

I notice when I set my i5 to run underclocked at 1600 GHz this lowers the temp to normal. Is there any harm in underclocking?

Any help would be great. smile.gif

SOLVED: It was a windows power "high performance" setting.
