Upgrading my GPU

Hey guys,

Been a while since i've posted anything.
I currently have a Gigabyte HD 7950 Windforce 3.

Now I am wondering,
With todays price of a HD 7950 (Roughly 240/250 euros) I can sell this card for 190 maybe even 200 euros.
Which means I'll get most of my money back that I invested into this card, with the money I get back and some extra I could get a GTX 780 (Zotac Reference for 556 euro, or a Gigabyte Windforce 3 GTX 780 for around 570 euro.

Now they say the AMD 9xxx series are also coming this october,...
I don't know if I should wait for those to release, or if I should sell my card now and get the GTX 780.

There are 2 reasons I am considering this.
1. When I run Battlefield 3 at ultra preset I get around 40-45 fps (at 2560x1440), this is with 4xAA on, disabling AA gives me around 60-65 fps avg.
If I am correct, the GTX 780 will be well above 60 fps on ultra and on a 1440p monitor.

2. I can still get quite a bit of money for my HD 7950, I am going to school again, and work + school just doesn't work for me, last time I did that I failed and had to redo the year so I'm waiting until I finished school, which should be around april. (By then Maxwell should be out as well if I am correct).

What should I do (or what should you do).

(I already have a potential buyer btw)

Thanks in advance

What I would do is buy another 7950 for Xfire, new drivers are supposed to be awesome. biggrin.gif

Plus: ~240 euro for(Xfire 7950) a lot better than 780 performance vs. 370 euro after sale of your card for 780 performance.

Yep, buying another 7950 for crossfire is most definitely a better investment. Especially when the crossfire latency drivers have been released for quite sometime now.

Add a second 7950 that way you dont lose any money on the first 7950

Only one problem your 620 watts PSU is made by SevenTeam which makes it a not very good PSU

If you want to add more video cards you need to upgrade the PSU first

OP even if you want to go single GPU i suggest you wait till HD 9970 launch in early Oct. this card is expected to be on par with Titan and priced closer to GTX 780. you can see how HD 9970 OC performance is. if this card at max OC gets close to 50% faster than HD 7970 OC it might be the better option over even HD 7950 CF.

Thanks for all the responses.

I have checked out cross firing my hd7950, but I don't know of there are any other problems I might come across, like if crossfire isn't supported, or doesn't work at all.

Any one can inform me a bit more about that? Or post a link that explains the pros and cons clearly?

Thanks

Just checked out that "BOOM" screenshot you linked, that's quite amazing. I think I'll just wait for the 9xxx series, if they are too expensive i'll just grab another HD 7950.
I also did some more research on Crossfire and the new Frame pacing driver, seems the frame time variance is at a really decent level right now.

Only thing I'm wondering now is if my PSU is strong enough.
It's a Cooler Master M620 Real Power (About 5 years old I think).
Specs can be found here: http://www.coolermaster.com/service/support/model/RS-620-ASAA-A1/

Again, thanks for all your help guys.
