You know who you are.

Those of you tempted by a SLI/CrossFireX setup but aren't quite sure if it's the right time to buy.

Those of you stuck with a 4yr old GPU looking to upgrade but simply can't wait till AMD announces the 9970 to know when is the right time to buy.

Those of you, like me who everyday look at their calendar patiently waiting for September 25th.

This thread is for all of you. It is a support thread. A comfort thread for all of us lost sheep who are in the dark waiting for our salvation. In this holy sanctuary of the god of graphics, we practice abstinence and chastity. Come here to post what you plan to buy or what you want to buy but can't quite get yourself to because that 9000 series around the corner prevents you to. I will start.

Hello, my name is Juub, computer and gaming enthusiast. I recently sold my CrossFireX PowerColor 7950 because I wasn't getting quite the performance I wanted and I hated PowerColor. I find myself eyeing the GTX 780 but I know I musn't. I musn't fall to the dark side. With y'all help, I'm sure I'll be able to hold until September 25th.

I'll probably be waiting a good while. My 6970 still does what I need it to do, especially since I only play games at 1920x1200.

BF4 may say otherwise though, if I end up buying it.

Im hoping to upgrade my rig to a whole new build by Christmas. I will keep my Coolermaster Cosmos and 850w powersupply (sig). But everything else is getting an overhaul. Im planning to go (almost) money no object and single-GPU. Ideally, AMD's new 9970 or what have you will be on par with a Titan and a good bit cheaper. I could just get a Haswell cpu but Im gonna just wait and see how Ivy-E pans out. I really just need stuff to start coming out or at least being officially announced so I can plan it all out. But for now im unsure whats going to happen. 9970's might be ****. Ivy-E might be ****. Who knows. The internet is just full of speculation and 'theoretical specs'.

currently it might look like a good price. but you will see how bad the pricing was due to lack of true competition when HD 9970 launches.

I thought about that but the 9970 also launches in probably around 2 months. They also don't have EVGA which is the main reason I'm even looking at this card. I also doubt Nvidia slashes their price by 100$ even if there is competition.

Edit: Even if the 9970 is 500$(which I REALLY doubt) I'd still be happy about my purchase because I'd have gotten it 2 months earlier and from EVGA.

more like 1.5 months. yeah if you want EVGA then GTX 780 is the only choice. if HD 9970 performs on par with Titan Nvidia will cut prices on GTX 780 and maybe introduce a 2688 sp or 2880 sp GTX 785. even if you want Nvidia it might be worth waiting for better prices.

Even if it performs as well as the Titan, AMD won't be crazy enough to sell it at a stupidly low price if they wanna make a profit. If it's on par with the Titan I doubt it gets sold for anything less than 800$ at which point Nvidia will match but still probably make the titan a bit more expensive at around 850$. That still leaves the 780 the sole GPU in its price bracket and there would be no reason to bring it down until the 9950 or something like that gets released to compete with it.

Assuming the 9970 aims to compete with the 780, it won't be for much less than 625$. I think I got most scenarios covered. I really doubt buying a GPU 100$ under what it's sold usually can turn against me.

the only reason to wait is because current GK110 prices are inflated due to lack of competition. AMD is going to price the HD 9900 cards aggressively to gain market share. the pricing on HD 7970 and HD 7950 should give you an indication of AMD's intentions.

the 7950s do not match your rig. i agree with the itch . . . you should have a 780 or 2 in there.

@op, i still think you should upgrade your cpu first.

Don't, you'll regret it in around a month and a half. AMD has to target the 780/Titan somehow, that will force Nvidia to drop their prices. I was many times tempted to buy a new solution but I always backed out.

Only three weeks left.

I'm waiting! And I may be waiting a LONG time. I refuse to sell my crossfire setup until 20nm (or 16nm) comes out. If the 9970 is really still a 28nm die ... I'll wait til the next round.

Not if we get REALLY lucky and AMD surprises the crap out of us with a 20nm chip, I'll be first in line for the Lightning when it comes out.

I just put together a brand new system and still opted out for a used 60$ GPU just to wait for this 20nm goodness. It better be freaking good ...
