I like the provided specs though he'll have to be on air. I've yet to complete my first loop and wouldn't dare try my first on a friend/customer.
I was just throwing something together, though does GSkill have the CL9 Ripjaws 2400 in 8gb sticks? Yes he'll be wanting a monitor also.

looks like CL10 is their lowest on DDR3 2400

Id go for the cheaper CL9 DDR3 2133

for the given budget $2500 here's my suggestion.....

CPU : Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2GHz - $563.98

RAM : G.Skill Ares Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Mhz - $149.99

MoBo : Asus Rampage IV Gene Micro ATX LGA2011 - $269.99

CPU Cooler : Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 - $69.93

SSD : Samsung 840 Series 120GB - $92.99

HDD : Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM - $59.98

PSU : XFX ProSeries 850W 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V / EPS12V (fully modular) - $143.54

Optical Drive : Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer - $16.98

GPU : PowerColor Radeon HD 7990 6GB - $604.98

Case : Fractal Design Arc Mini MicroATX Mini Tower - $49.99

Total Cost with shipping, mail in rebates and promo discounts is $2022.35 only....

The Fractal Design Arc Mini MicroATX Mini Tower is a nice case that can accomodate that long GPU(PowerColor Radeon HD 7990 6GB) you have and that large and bulky but very good CPU cooler Noctua NH-D14.......

Hope i help you to reduce the cost by replacing the other parts that can satisfy on what you needs thumb.gif

Here's the PCpartpicker link on all the parts reference cost http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1xaaQ ......

He's currently using a laptop with an i7 3630QM and a 660m, he was showing me when he opened AutoCad, Photoshop, and SKetchup Pro how things would slow down to loading times with multiple items/renders drawn up in AutoCad.

He also told me to spec one with no constraints so i'm guessing upwards of 3000-3500$ i guess just to see what it would cost.

Here's what i have so far, just out of my preference, though obviously the motherboard and GPU can be cut down a couple of 100$. Still haven't really thought of a cooling solution or case.

You should go with 2x8 sticks of ram instead of 4x4 so its easier to upgrade to higher amounts later.
The EVGA board got 8 ram slots though so you may not be need 8x8.
if you think he will need more than 32 gb ram you should go with 8gb sticks instead of 4gb so you can get up to 64gb ram in the future.
Both would be overkill though.

If your friend needs high precision.
and uses GPU compatible rendering software you could get a Titan or a quadro series card for high precision rendering.
The titan has Double-precision point activated
So thats also a choice.
But that card is expensive and not sure if he would need something like that for his work.

Sorry im not a computer expert though.
Hope this helps.

Nope, those sticks are already something special, because of density it would not be possible to hold those kinds of timings on 8GB sticks. It's usually a tradeoff; 8GB more "dense" sticks = less performance and more space while 2-4 GB sticks offer place for more performance.

That Raptor is a waste of money.

As someone else already mentioned, the following will give you vastly better performance.
SSD : Samsung 840 Series 120GB - $92.99
HDD : Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM - $59.98

What about backups? Did you establish backup policy for this work system?

The PSU is still overkill. Just because you have the budget, it does not mean you must use it all.

I don't have any experience with autocad, but I know solidworks doesn't use the GPU at all unless it's a workstation card- so a 780 would give the same experience as intel integrated tongue.gif.
