Underperforming 7950? - Page 2

Yes I did change the power slider up to 20% as advised in other situations. Before that the gpu was throttling and jumping from 60% to 100% usage. The benchmarks posted were with the 20% though so that problem is not there. I will work to get the 3DMark benchmarks soon.

Here's my 3DMark11 score at 1100 Mhz on the core and 1500 Mhz on the memory:

Average for a 7950. Your GPU is fine.

it's our amd chips. you need to oc your cpu to at least 4.5GHz. look at my thuban at 4GHz and the 7950 (1100/1575) . . .

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7008811

checkout the combined score.

same gpu, same oc different cpu . . .

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5601273

those gpu clocks are very close to a 7970 GHz edition.

edit: my amd rig plays the same settings in games as my intel. zero difference in 1080 if i don't watch my fps, which i don't. both smooth in all the games i play but i know my amd rig gets lower fps for sure.

Wait why did the graphics score go up? Does your CPU affect your graphics score in 3DMark? Also I will overclock eventually. May just switch out my CPU soon. So based on my situation you think my graphics card is functioning fine?

Sorry to jack the thread, but I have a Vapor-X 7950 and I can't seem to get it above 1050 on the core.
Newbie overclocker but so far I have got from stock with a score of 1402 on the Unigine Valley benchmark, up to 1049/1490 with a score of 1651.

Should I be able to get higher?

yes. just like games . . . some rely on the cpu more while others just the gpu. Heaven relies on the gpu more, while 3DMark11 depends on both.

but pay attention to the combined score. that indicates how much the cpu is holding back the gpu to a point that you'll notice in some games like BF3 MP.

edit: i think your card is functioning properly but i really want to see your temps (core and vrms).

use this to monitor . . .

http://www.hwinfo.com/

and this to test (hit the "?" to start rendering) . . .

http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

keep HwInfo running in the background.

@Krazy, do the same at stock speeds first.

here is how it should look like (7970 on air)

turn off test if gpu temps go above 80C.

I just ran my card at 1100/1500 and got 898. Dont worry about a difference that small, your card is fine.
