What to get...?

Thread Starter
I don't have enough money to go C2D unless my current system sells for $600 so I've decided to just stick with my current rig and improvise.

I can choose one of the parts below:

Opteron 165
another XFX 7600GT (for sli)
DFI LANPARTY UT nF4

Remember I can only get one of those things since my budget kinda tops off at $160.

I wont spend a buck until I get some feedback.

Thanks.

I would say Opty, isnt that dual core? That would be the biggest bang for the buck.

How well does your current board OC? If it doesn't OC well I'd get a new mobo. If it OC's fine then it depends on what you use your power for. If you need really strong graphics, get the 7600GT. If you need a faster computer all around, get the Opteron.

Edit: I thought your current processor was dual core. Because its not, go for the Opteron. It will make the biggest difference.

I'm looking for all around performance. I am getting WoW and CS and CS:S. Also, I like to benchmark alot

I see the Opteron is getting more votes...

My boards is fine. 2.64GHz stable in 3dmark06 and 2.46GHz prime stable.

If you are looking for all around, then go for the Opty, if you have never used dual core it is a whole new ballgame, seriously. You will notice a huge increase in performance. Much more than you would from a mobo to get a few more mhz out of the 3500, or Sli on a (judging by the "Boo!") a crappy CRT.

I'm probably going to be a cheapo and get a 27" LCD later on lol
post #8 of 22
Well if you have enough for a 27" LCD then you should just be happy with what you have now and save up some money and do a true upgrade. In all honesty putting money into your current rig would be a waste.

Wait. I just say you have only 512 mb RAM, get 1 gig, you will notice a difference even bigger than gettting gthe Opty, or anything else up there on the list.

BTW, I'm not buying the LCD :3
Yeah, I put 1 gig in a computer that had a crappy 2.0ghz P4, and the response of the guy that I put it in was and I quote "Holy Cow, that was like 20 times faster" and he was upgrading from 512 just like you.
