Awful OCZ RMA w/ pictures

Thread Starter
I RMA'd two OCZ vertex 2 60GB ssds, and just got my replacements today. To say they are in poor condition would be an understatement...

Heres the first replacement drive:

You can clearly see the poor condition of the packaging in the first picture, and the second shows a huge crack in the ssd casing (I havent even opened either of the drives packaging.

The second drive:

You can see that on both sides of the drive, the metal underside of the ssd is so loose that it has an opening, as if its been stepped on.

What a total joke of an RMA, Im hoping to ask for a full refund in money for both drives as I dont want anymore OCZ drives to be sent. What do you think?

If the package is still sealed, I would suggest directly contacting OCZ and sending pics along with a message implying extreme satisfaction. Wait and let them offer you some kind of refund or return. If it is not an upgrade to a larger capacity, demand a refund and just buy a 250gb Samsung EVO. It retails for ~180 on newegg.

Although OCZ RMA is notoriously bad, this damage could have been done by the courier. Contact OCZ and see what they say. As bad as they are, I'm sure they wouldn't send out drives that were this obviously damaged. smile.gif

Sorry to hear about your back experience.

I have had consistently bad experience with them as well. I've owned several drives by them (at least 5) over the years and all have failed on me at one point or another. Mostly due to buggy firmware. Drive would work for months after flashing and then randomly disappear from BIOS one by one. Do I take some blame for continuing to try using the latest firmware? Sure. But to be that consistently terrible at making functional/stable firmware is laughable. It's amazing how they would work for months after and just mysteriously never work again after rebooting.

I have a dead 120GB Vertex 2 that has needed to be RMA'd for about a year and I haven't bothered because 1) the new drive will just fail again and 2) They probably have a limited warranty that also requires a receipt. I don't have enough faith to even check.

Looks like shipping damage - what does the box look like that they were sent to you in? More than likely you'll have to deal with the courier's insurance. I doubt OCZ would ship out drives like that knowingly.
