Games "Not responding" and crashing

Thread Starter
Heyo
I was on vacation for two weeks. My desktop was at home, ofcourse. When I came back I noticed more and more games are crashing more and more often. I can't join servers in TF2, and I can't minimize CS: GO without it crashing too. Sometimes the game closes and Steam tells me the game is already running, while some times they just don't respond.
I downloaded all the updates for Windows. This did not solve the problem.

Anyone know anything else I can do? I'll update DirectX and my graphic drivers and see if that solves it.

Thanks!

Yea definitely do a clean install of new drivers. That should solve your problem.

Thanks for the help so far! Sorry for double posting but it seems it didn't quite fix the problem after all.

Most programs work fine but many close instantly with errors such as "has stopped working" or "is not responding".

This is what I've done so far:
- Installed every available update from Windows Update.
- Installed new graphics drivers using Nvidia Experience.
- Done a full system scan and repair with CCleaner. (Quite a few errors showed up.)
- Done a full system scan with Avast. No threats found.
- Run "sfc /scannow" with CMD. No errors found.
- Made sure I had the latest version of DirectX.

What more could I update?

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately that's still too cryptic to point out exactly what is making your games crash. For specific games check log files or dump a crash report from the application to find out what is going wrong. Check the individual support forums for specific games to find out which log files to check or how to create a crash report.

Edit: if its steam games verify the game cache or reinstall. Since you say this started after your time away from your PC id reset any overclocks and recheck your hardware to make sure that is not the issue.
