Laptop SSD for desktop PC?

Thread Starter
I am interested in the Samsung 840 Pro for my desktop.. the only thing I can find on Best Buys website is the "Laptop" SSD.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/840+Pro+128GB+Internal+Serial+ATA+Solid+State+Drive+for+Laptops/7796063.p?id=1218860216851&skuId=7796063&st=Samsung%20840&cp=1&lp=1

I was just wondering if this will work fine in a desktop PC?

There is no difference between the two. If you look closely at the part numbers you will see that some end in BW and others in KW. KW is the SSD kit which includes a spacer, cable and migration adapter with software. BW would be just the drive itself. thumb.gif

Yeah, it's fine. They made 3.5" SSDs in the early days (2008ish) but have since then stopped. Shipping costs got too high for something that could fit in a 7mm 2.5" form factor. The PCB of a 120 GB SSD is tiny - about the size of a SO-DIMM module. You might need a 2.5" to 3.5" drive adapter if your case didn't come with one or lacks a 2.5" cage though.
