FX-8350 Cooling and Performance

Thread Starter
I have noticed that my Fx-8350 has been running at a constant temp of 32C - 40C when idle. What is causing this? Everyone else seems to have that be the under load temp. I do only have the stock heatsink, and it isn't overclocked just yet. I am going to get a liquid cooler tomorrow hopefully but why is it so hot? Also I notice the Vcore voltage is at 1.416, I thought stock voltage was 1.355. Any thoughts on what would be causing it? I had AMD Overdrive installed and it would revert to the Turbo setting everytime I restarted the computer but even after uninstalling it the voltage is staying high. Let me know asap. I don't want to break anything.

That idle temp with stock HS is perfectly normal, the stock voltage will depend on the motherboard, and yea this is a little high for stock voltage, which imo is a good sign considering your temps at idle are not so bad for the voltage you have. Turbo mode tends to overvolt a little bit too much for my personal liking but tbh, your rig sounds perfectly fine, send us some temp results under load + maybe check with cpu-z for vcore fluctuations while doing so.

Have you checked ccc under power and then CPU and set the left bar to the far left side?

Yeah, so I disabled turbo core (Gigabyte 970a-DS3) and I enabled HPC and manually adjusted everything. It's at 4.4Ghz and 1.332V. It took the idle temp down to 28C -30C hasn't gone above 35C even when I playing a game. I will run the 95 bench tonight and post the results.

Yup, the temps, for your current setup are fine. I'd worry if it were above 65 - 70C. thumb.gif
