Wasteland was a major inspiration for the first two Fallout games.

Neverwinter Nights Complete is on sale at GamersGate btw, $9 bucks. It includes all of the games plus it's expansions. I bought it from them and the only thing I needed to do to get them working, was to set them to Win Vista compatibility mode. They are very good games... I still occasionally play the campaign of the first. Never have gotten around to finishing the second though.

Neverwinter Nights Complete GG $9.

Unfortunately there really are no games such as the old classics.

This is my main problem with 99.9% of the RPG games.

There is little to no story that makes the experience personal to your character. There is always some world conflict happening wich I could care less about and hence the game becomes just a visual experience.

The Witcher series is not bad because they actually spend some time on Gerald (you) and his personal story/struggle but still, the majority of the game focusses on a "world conflict"

If you've never played PlaneScape Torment and don't care about graphics, it is by far my favourite game of all time. The story is so rich and personal, it had me in tears and emotional turmoil throughout the game. The OST is also brilliant and creates that much more emotion with the storyline.

Torment is coming out with a sequel because they know how popular their original game was. Someone here mentioned it but check it out for yourself.

Other RPG mid evil stories I've really liked include Warcraft 3+expansions, non mid evil, Starcraft,

FPS games tend to have quite good stories too if you're into that stuff. Crysis IMO has a fantastic storyline as does Assassins Creed, but AC becomes extremely repetitive in between it's storyline. Far Cry 3 was a lot of fun too.

Look up Avernum: Escape From The Pit on Steam. Old school party turn based RPG, but simplistic weak graphics. I'm really enjoying plodding through it on the highest difficulty, its absolutely brutal.

Try out Krater. I had a blast playing that game and it's normally cheap as hell on Steam, especially when it goes on sale.
