$320 CDN pricematched for HIS IceQ 7970 - worth it for Crossfire?

Normally i dont like getting products this late in the cycle (with 8xxx probably in the next month or 2) - but with 13.8, im seriously considering pairing up my Matrix 7970 with another for Crossfire.

http://www.hisdigital.com/ca/product2-691.shtml

The HIS IceQ is only clocked at 925/5500 while my Matrix can hit 1250/6500...im hoping to OC the Iceq and have them both running at 1200/6400

I have 7 days to return so i guess i can try and see how they pair up, temps, noise etc.

Is $320 (about $350 inc tax) worth it to CF 7970 at this point? I swore off CF since my 2x6970s..but 13.8 changes things...

Thanks

As far as i'm aware you better make sure you have 2 slot spacing under the first PCIE slot that the matrix is occupying and also it should be 8X

And also if it's in Crossfire good luck getting what you got on a single card ...

Ya i have a giant HAF-X case, i have room for another 2 slotter in there. Pretty sure my mobo is 16x/16x not that it matters that much.

The Matrix hits 1250mhz 65C max, so i think CF it can probably do 1200, and the IceQ has a decent cooler as well, and is voltage unlocked. I might be too optimistic but i think 1200mhz core is possible.

But maybe more realistic would be 1100mhz @75C for both.

Unless your board has a PLX chip it isn't x16/x16.

OP it might be better to wait for HD 9970 aka Hawaii. as a single GPU it will provide more consistent performance. will be clocked lower as its a massive chip. more OC headroom. think and decide.

watercooled and OC should be able to be perfect with 2560 resolutions.
