Memory upgrade question

Thread Starter
Hello,

I recently purchased the following memory to upgrade my girlfriend's laptop and ran into a problem. When I swap in the new memory and turn it on I get a message saying "foreign memory detected" and it will not start up (it just keeps rebooting).

So my main question is, is this http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=47188 compatible with the ASUS K42JV?

Here is a link to the laptop http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220739

I've never upgraded ram before so I'm not sure if there is a step that I'm missing or if it just isn't compatible.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

The only thing I can think of is the RAM you linked is DDR3-1333, and it has DDR3-1333 in the SPD setting. The laptop you linked uses DDR3-1066 RAM, and might require 1066 SPD settings to work properly.
