Hey yep will get the DT880s biggrin.gif

Can anyone comment on which card will drive them the best?

ZXR vs STX (Voltage / Power Output)

as far as I know, they both use the same headphone amplifier. So better question would be which card has better surround emulation for headphones (Creative is better for gaming).

The ZxR dosent deliver 80 mW as the STX does, so if you have very demanding headphones, the STX (or ST) does that part better, info was posted on head-fi about it, buried deep in the thread.

Avid gamer here. I also listen to music pretty much all the time on my PC whilst playing various online games.... etc.

Now I've used onboard sound for as long as I can remember and I currently useHD595 (50ohm) as my headphones.

I remember my brothers first and only sound card, it was a Sound Blaster 16bit and it came with a 1x CD rom (amazing!) smile.gif but back then it made a huge difference in many DOS games.

Anyway I'm looking to buy:

1. Soundcard.
2. Higher OHM headphones - sometime in the future.

Here are my requirements:

1. Prefer the soundcard to have an inbuilt amp since I don't really want to have an external DAC.
2. Prefer the soundcard to have a 6.3mm (1/4") socket for my headphones.
3. I prefer STEREO to be honest - I am not into the whole surround aspect of sounds even in gaming - However I'd like the card to properly emulate it.
4. I listen to mainly techno / trance / drum and bass / and even dubstep here and there.
5. Good impedance headphones to take advantage of inbuilt amp.

Could you guys please advise on the best soundcard for my situation. I'd appreciate some prompt answers as I'm hoping to get the car after work today biggrin.gif (live in Aus) I've been looking at the following setup:

1. Xonar Essence STX
2. Beyerdynamic: DT880 (heard however that the BASS is slightly lacking?)

there is an OCN sound card buyers guide. according the guide you want an xonar card it's good games but, better at music. i'm in the same boat and have had an xonar d1 and i love it. just be sure to use unified drivers because factory drivers have issues.

I have mine forced to 8 channel mode via unified drivers and don't really use the surround sound effects because ...well they are just that, effects and they sound as muhc too.
