Looking for 5.1 sound card that will be a improvement over my on board. - Page 2

For all the people claiming that onboard sounds fine, try using high end headphones with them. I noticed a huge difference going from onboard to a sound blaster zx.

High end headphones are a HUGE difference from logitech speakers. I never said a sound card doesn't help. I said it would do him little to no good because of his choice in speakers.

Now if he bought some good speakers, then we'd be getting somewhere with sound card talk.

The Z506 has an RCA digital input (S/PDIF) connection. IF your motherboard sound has a RCA digital output, you could connect it with 100% digital signal and it just doesn't get any better than that. Likewise, if you don't have S/PDIF output on your motherboard, you should look for a sound card that DOES so you can connect digitally to the Z506. There is no advantage of going analog.

Yea, my mobo supports S/PDIF. Cool I'll look into that. I didn't realize these speakers offered optional connection methods. I thought it was just through the provided cables.

*Ok, they don't have a S/PDIF connection. The options are, the included wires for 5.1 through a computer, or RCA connection for stereo to say a tv, or console.
