This is the main concern Performance, I don't care whether I get an AMD or Nvidia card, but I will having two cards together through SLI or Crossfire, and I have read that Crossfire doesn't get updated as fast and has some major issues as of now..

In saying all of this, I will be getting a reference PCB Nvidia card. I am now just trying to decide whether or not to get two 770s or 2 780s. I am willing to spend the extra on the 780s if in SLI it will perform a lot better than the 770s
. However, I will not pay an extra 500ish for 5-10% increase. At that point, I might as well go tri-sli. Although, my mobo won't handle that, so I have to stick to dual SLI.

a GTX 780 is roughly 30 - 35% faster than GTX 770 clock for clock.

That's an awesome performance increase, but.... I'll be running a 1080P monitor doesn't the 780 scales a lot better at higher resolutions?

you can expect a similar 30 - 35% performance difference between GTX 780 OC and GTX 770 OC at 1080p in the most demanding games like Metro Last Light, Tombraider, Crysis 3, BF3 especially at the highest settings.

OP my advice to you is, if in a hurry go with single GTX 780. check out the performance and then add another if you want more perf. if you can manage with MSAA 2x at 1080p even a single GTX 780 should do. if you can wait for a month or so, then check out HD 9970 vs GTX 780 comparisons and then decide. thumb.gif

I really like this advice. Go with a single 780 now, then wait a month or two for the HD8xxx release that will inevitably drive 780 prices down - then go SLI.

I think that's my plan. Pick up a reference 680 with a decent ability to OC now, and when I build my WC loop at the beginning of next year, OC the hell out of them. Hopefully the prices will drop on the cards.

My other options are to deal with the ungodly 4600 or Buy a cheap card or get a used one from a member on here that I can run 30fps on 1080p on at least high settings.

(I assume you meant GTX780, not 680.)

As I understand it, the HD 8970 will be a Titan competitor, and the HD 8950 will be a GTX780 competitor. Both are coming out next month. Pricing is still speculative, but now that AMD will be able to compete against Nvidia at the top of the line again, we should see it kick off a nice price war.

Enjoy!

Definitely meant the 780. And that was my thinking. I'm not a huge nvidia fan boy, but I've always felt like intel and nvidia are the pair and amd and "ati" go together.

I really need to get something now because it kills me seeing my beautiful desktop without a card in it.

So... now to decide for what card to get now. I'm thinking evga sc acx cooler. It's a reference card design according to ek blocks. I'd be going with a xspc raystorm 780/titan block though. Those blocks are pretty... they'll need some custom leds though.

That'll be at the end of the year though.
