Anyone else having issues with 8900's?

It seems as though over the past few days, I've started getting new 8900 work units. I wouldn't think it to be a problem normally, but they absolutely trash my computers performance.

Any time I'm working on one, Chrome feels like it's had a hundred tabs open for a week straight, I get about a quarter of my normal FPS in games, and even text entry boxes are incredibly laggy.

Nothing was abnormal in the logs the last time I checked, no more RAM is being used than normal, and my CPU usage is no higher, but it just makes my computer almost unusable. Any idea as to what the issue might be?

Specs are as in sig.

Enabled or disabled, this issue starts between a few seconds and about a minute of resuming folding.

EDIT: It also stops immediately after pausing or closing the client.

The old AMD core (core 16) that all of the work you've done recently uses doesn't utilize the cards very effectively, while the new core (core 17) really maximizes your card's capabilities. Since GPUs don't have much in the way of task scheduling, this can lead to noticeable lag if multiple high-intensity loads are trying to use the card at the same time. It's recommended that you pause folding when playing games or other GPU-intensive tasks. As to Chrome, pretty much all current browsers use the GPU to accelerate rendering; this will also cause scheduling conflicts. There should be an option somewhere to disable this, offloading all the rendering to the CPU and reducing the lag a lot, if not eliminating it altogether. Or, you could pause the GPU when browsing the web if you want to keep Chrome's GPU acceleration.

There was a lot of server work done earlier in the week, and it looks like an unintended issue that cropped up is that project 8900 is being handed out to all GPU slots even though it had previously only made it to the Advanced stage of release. This may be corrected soon, but at some point it and other core 17 projects will be given a full release.

If you set the Folding Power slider to Medium, your GPU will only fold when the computer is idle.

None of these things seem to be a factor. It lags no matter what else is open, whether or not hardware acceleration is enabled, even with all unnecessary processes closed except for the client, it still makes mouse movements laggy.

I seem to remember that someone stated that GPUs don't have interrupts, so there is no way to set priorities. If the OS needs to update the display, it has to wait until there is a break in folding execution. Work units such as 8900, 762x, etc. put a massive load on the GPU. The OS might have to wait quite a while before it can update the display while folding these units.

There really isn't anything you can do in your current situation. You could pause the client while you want to use the computer, and then restart the client when you are done. You could also get a separate GPU for general use while the other one folds.

Well darn. Funny thing is, I did have another card (5770) in until just a couple weeks ago, but the PCIe x1 slot wasn't enough to support it over the long term and started bending (over the course of months), allowing the card to partially slip out and lose connection, so I had to remove it.

You're not alone in seeing lag even when not doing anything else; I was just hoping that that wouldn't be the case for you. Your best bet is probably setting the power slider to Medium so it doesn't fold when you're using the computer. It'll also automatically start folding after ~10 minutes of inactivity so you don't forget to turn it back on.
