Is an fx-6350 a worthwhile upgrade from an athlon || x4 640?

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
Or should I go for an eight core? Keep in mind that I am upgrading for bf4.
post #2 of 11
Oh yes it is. It will blow a 640 out of the water. I don't think BF4 supports 8 cores, so buying one solely for the purpose of gaming BF4 won't make a difference.
post #3 of 11
Go for 8 core only if you will be playing mp with 64 peoples. BF3 can use 8 core and BF4 should do it even better

I went from a 640 to a FX-6300 and it was a huge difference. But yeah, just spend some extra money and get an 8 core. I sure wished I did thumb.gif

BF3 and 4 support 8 cores if I'm not mistaken.

Indeed they do. Frostbite and Cryengine support up to 8 threads. (Or in this case, cores)

If you can afford the FX 8320/8350 grab it. If you can't then the FX 6300/6350 would do well. The only reason I went in for the FX 6300 was because getting the 8 core chip would require a better mobo and I was short on cash. If you will be getting a kick ass mobo the do consider the 8 core chip.
