How much more performance?

I was thinking about going water cooling for my 8350 which right now is stable on a hyper 212 + @ 4.6ghz how much of an actual performance increase would i get if i went to say 5ghz when i switch to a custom loop? I run multiple vmwares (5-12 at a time) so extra performance is always welcomed but it would be running 80%+ load for long periods of time so stable and non-damaging clocks are always my priority

As a rough value the OC inrease in %, will be the % increase in performance +-

Youre running 4.6 with a Hyper 212? Thats pretty excellent! Is that Prime95 or OCCT stable?

4.6 is usually the upper limit of overclock on these 8300 chips and if yours is able to run at a low enough voltage that a Hyper 212 can handle cooling duties, then you might have an overclocking beast on your hands there.

Yeah its been stable running 10 days since last restart never past 50c @ or around 80% load 1.375v I did initially do OCCT for about 6 hours, and the last 10 days it ran constant was enough for me. When i put water cooling in ill see if the performance is worth pushing the voltages up and risking decayed lifespan

i would overclock my 7850 as well but xfx hates me and i unfortunately got a voltage locked card frown.gif

Your running 4.6 on 1.375v? And your sure its stable? Because that's a bit insane, you may be on the precipice of a massive voltage wall. I thought I was stable with my 4.4 on 1.44v with my 8320 but when I got my h80i I only managed to push up to 4.6 and that's with 1.488v. On the other hand you may have a MONSTER chip on your hands. Put your specs into rigbuilder so we can see it in your sig.

You mentioned a voltage wall? what is that? I'm still pretty much a noob at this, i just used a guide to turn off/on settings then bumped the multiplier and voltages up or down until i stopped getting blue screens. but whatever that is , it sounds like it could mess something up is it serious?

1.375v for 4.6GHz isn't all that unheard of. My 8350 is stable at 4.5GHz with 1.325v (which is stock VID.)

Dropping it underwater will definitely give you some more wiggle room. I've found that the EK CH5V VRM/NB water block really helped with stability too. Cool VRMs delivery much more stable power.

I obviously can't guarantee it, but if I were a betting man, I would say 5GHz should be really easy for you to reach under water. I can't vouch for performance gains with VMs.

The voltage wall is the point at which when you are OCing that you have to start giving a ton more voltage to get stable. You may be able to do 4.6 on 1.375 but if the voltage wall is, say, at 4.7 then you may have to bump the voltage all the way to 1.41 to get it stable. And again up to say, 1.45v to get 4.8 stable. (Just example numbers to illustrate, not what you may see).
