[Official] MSI GTX 780 Lightning Owner's Club - Page 20

Out of curiosity, what are your impressions of the Tri Frozr cooler at this point? Is it an improvement over the TwinFrozr 4 found in the 680 Lightning or is it, like the reviews suggest not an improvement. Apparently many of the reviews suggest that the middle fan is not doing much.

When active i am sure it makes a difference although not a big 1.

Looks and quality wise it appears to be an improvement. If I go with a lighting I would be putting it under water anyway so Fan performance wouldn't matter.

I am going to wait a little longer and see how the Lighting compares to the 780 Classified before making my final desicion!

If you're putting them under water, with this new v1.35 hack for Titan/780s I see no reason to buy a 780 over a second hand Titan now...

pretty much this really, the classified is a nice card, and im sure the lightning will once msi gets their stuff together, but for now, a used titan with 1.3v going through it will dominate all but the most amazing of cards.

2 Lightnings or Classy's would blow away a Titan.

Both have 3GB of on board Vram which is more then enough to drive 2560x1440/1600.

If you have the cash to blow on 2 Titans well then that's a different story but $ to performance ratio SLI Classy or Lighting wins.

Which ever model you can get easier access 2 in Europe grab that model.

I will be in Germany soon and i hope i dont have the same issues inquiring ether card.

stock bios vs stock bios the classified can win in most instances, but with skynet custom bios and 1.35v going through a titan youre gonna have a hard time making one slow down tongue.gif

also, Ive been seeing a lot of instances where i go over 3gb of vram in games now at 2560x1440, it might just be me and my settings, but if you dont mind, letting me know your vram usage in games such as crysis3 id much appreciate it thumb.gif

if you want best price to performance, classified, if you want the best period, titan.

already had a SC ACX classified and the fans get annoying within certain rpm ranges.

when you got no water cooling ambitions the Lightning might be the better choice for a single gpu system.

i will return my Lightning since it keeps crashing under original LN2 Bios WITHOUT OC and wont show VDDC.

for SLI i would rather have two cards with reference cooler ... water cooling different story. wink.gif

I just like the extra visual flare the Lighting has to offer opposed to the Classified although i have already invested $75 in to the classified.I purchased a EVbot & 780 Classfied back plate in anticipation of buying 1.

I change my mind a lot though so the Lighting has slowed my decision making process down. They both will probably end up producing the same results over time with the Lighting having a stronger power phase design for maybe better stability ?

Even at used prices i am not sure if i can commit to a Titan lol,its just so much money for a single GPU!
