[Official] MSI GTX 780 Lightning Owner's Club - Page 246

Ok, I'm starting to feel real silly here...so I pulled one card out and I'm attempting to find my max overclock one card at a time. I'm currently +150 core, +300 memory, but no matter what I do I cannot seem to get the core above 1.067 volts. I'm currently up to +100mv on the slider and I'm running the Skynet standard bios for Hynix, and now I cannot pass +160 or anything higher no matter what I try. Using Nvidia inspector, my volts seem to go no higher than 1.067. Is there a reason for that or something I'm missing here...?

Ok, so I switched to EVGA precision x and bumped the voltage up and easily hit 1240mhz. I think I'm missing something in Afterburner apparently, as I have voltage control unlocked and everything appropriate checked in settings>general, but my voltage never goes past 1.067 for some reason. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing lol...?

Just a thought. You may want to try reinstalling afterburner. Are you sure that you are hitting apply? I don't know if this applies to your situation or not; but if my driver crashed and reset, I would have to hit the reset button at the bottom. After that, I would reapply my profile and everything would operate as usual after that.

Well, that might not even be necessary at the moment. It appears I've blown one of the cards already! I cranked up the voltage to 1.212 in Precision X, and the core to 1260mhz, memory still at +300. I ran a full run of Heaven successfully, so I'm thinking "Great! Let's go a little higher!". I step up to 1270mhz, still 1.212 volts...30 seconds in so far so good...then out of nowhere the display crashes, the fans spin up to max, and all the power LED's on the back of the card shut off, and the fans are stuck at max. I powered off the computer, then powered back on, and the LED's still won't come on and the fans are definitely stuck at max. I power cycled again...same thing...it appears to be dead. I swapped my other card back in and it powered up normally. I even flipped the bios switch between all 3 bios and it still wouldn't boot under any circumstances. frown.gif

Oh wow that's harsh! I hope you still have some warranty on it cause it definitely sounds dead to me!

I got a nice 1 month old one secondhand if the guy doesn't back out on the last moment.
Finally I can add the Lightning to my list of tested GTX780's. I've had 7 different cards from reference to DC2 to pretty much every popular non-ref like the Gaming, Gigabyte models, Palit Jetstream and so on..

So far nothing can even come close to the Gigabyte Ghz Edition in terms of overclock ability. (Yes, the Gigabyte supports 1.30v softmod) and I hope the Lightning can finally bring a challenge.

I only have one question. Do we have software voltage control up to like, 1.25-1.30v, yet or still just rbby tool..
Thundahcat.

Be happy you can hit that. 1675Mhz is all she wrote for my Lightning with Elpida.... Kind of like putting Prius tires on a TT Supra. MSI should be kicked in the balls for this biggrin.gif

Sorry. It definitely sounds like it bit the bullet. Maybe your replacement will be a stellar overclocker.
