Also tried:

Giving each card its own PSU, no luck, so not a power issue.
Changing the wall outlet my psu is plugged into, nope
Bios reset to stock, nothing.
Different SLI cable, nope

Next step is pulling both and putting the stock coolers back on. Then attempting SLI again. This is a huge pain in the ass frown.gif

Do both of the cards have the same bios installed??

Maybe this will help? http://www.overclock.net/t/1363010/pc-restarting-but-only-during-gaming-and-only-with-sli/0_50

Its best to test gpu and memory overclocks using actual games. For gpu memory crysis 2 and 3 or batman Arkham origins. For gpu clocks battlefield 4, far cry 3 and tomb raider.

I updated one of the cards to a sky bios, but I haven't been using it.

Both have the switch set to the stock bios.

I've read that article, thanks for the link though.

Doesnt work! This mod works with the voltage controller NCP4206/08, the lightning has a chill 8138 i believe, so no LLC control for the lightning i´m afraid!

Cheers

Hi, thanks for your response. Answers to your questions:

1. I am not sure if the middle fan spins up before Windows or not to be honest, as the PC is on the floor in a tight spot. I'll have to check. Another thing I still need to try is to flip it to the LN2 BIOS and see if that makes a difference.

2. Yes, I've tried the Lightning fan tool. It only goes as low as 30% and is still loud. When I turn it up to 100%, you can definitely hear more noise.

MSI is suggesting I RMA the card and says they believe the fan is bad. However, I am very reluctant to do that since I'm afraid I'll get another refurbed card back that could have other issues (plus this card has Hynix memory). Here are the options I'm considering:

Option #1: Unplugging the middle fan. Thoughts? I don't believe I will try overclocking it higher than the stock overclock.
Option #2: Scouring the forums of most major sites and see if anyone who has replaced their default Lightning cooler with a water block would be willing to sell me their old cooler so I can swap the fans out.

Option #2 is what I am exploring now. No hits on Anandtech so far, but I'll check Hardforums as well and I'll look here to see if there is a FS/FT forum and maybe post. Otherwise, if anyone here has their original MSI cooler laying around and you remember the middle fan being pretty quiet, PM me and maybe we can work out a sale. smile.gif
Unless MSI can guarantee me my repaired card back or a new card in exchange, I don't think I want to risk an RMA. This card gets a decent ASIC score and has Hynix memory. I don't want to risk exchanging it for some refurbed card that may not be as good or worse, have to be RMAed again. I'd like to try to replace the middle fan so I'm looking for anyone selling their original MSI Lightning cooler or their middle fan (assuming it is quiet).
I use open rig/benchtable so I can hear the sound directly of my fans, the yellow fan is starting to get noisy at 60 - 70% to beyond smile.gif
Just for information, indycoltsfan.

When I select GPU memory burner (1024MB) and hit "Run" program works just fine!

Is this problem with my GPU or is have something to do with program?

I haven't used that test myself, but it likely won't let you test the full amount of vid memory as some is necessary for your operating system to use. I ran into similar issues when I was using intel burn in test on the most extreme setting. It would never run past. 1 sec or so because I had disabled my operating system page file and it was trying to test memory that was still being used by the OS.

I thought only EVGA OC Scanner has it, where do we see the artifact scanner? I mean the setting on Kombustor.
