the only change is the way components interact between each other and maybe the South Bridge will make multimedia faster, but there aren't huge differences.

They're just newer versions of each chipset. I'm not sure about the nforce5 and 6, but nforce4 was crap. I can't imagine they changed much because it would take tremendous work to fix that piece o' crap chipset. They'd be better off starting fresh.

EDIT: Damn typos. -.-

If you dont need true SLI support.. dont go NForce.. to many little niggling issues.

I have now had all 3 versions. My Nforce4 (P5ND2-SLI) I had for 6 months, no major complaints, but the driver support for the onboard Nics was garbage. Just go ahead and accept that you will need a PCI NIC, or a Wireless adapter. MY Wife is running it now with a 7950GX2 in it and no problems. RAID Was solid. But I believe the NVRAID is unchanged between the 4,5 and 6 series.

The Nforce 5 board was ok (Asus P5ND-SLI Premium Wifi) and I was starting to like it till I just..died.. I have sent it back to Newegg for a credit. Being another Asus, overclocking was.. not up to most boards standards.

My current is a 680I board from BFG, like the EVAG 680I, it's very very close to the Nvidia Reference board. Goobs of overclock options.. fairly good performance (From what I have been able to tell so far, but I havent had it a week yet.

No incompatibles yet, but always make sure to use the NFORCE Drivers from the enwest release, and NOT THE WINDOWS DRIVERS, big trouble.

I couldnt use the SMBus drivers from nvidia with my Nforce4 board, it would always cause BSOD in widnows. But I could run the SMBus drivers from Nvidia on the 5 and 6 boards with no troubles.

If you are going to buy a board for under $100.. and are willing to settlefor a 4 board.. you might be better served waiting till you have a little more cash and getting at least a Nforce5 board. Less incompatibilities.

But if you dnt plan to seriosuly do SLI, dont bother at all.. go Intel chipset
