So, bought a 770 and not really impressed by it all that much...

I had the 780 in my hands ready to buy it, but I just couldn't stomach the price tag so I opted for a 2gb 770 instead. Now I'm kinda not really noticing any major performance increase in the games I play. And my goal was to play on this new 1440p monitor that's arriving any day now. Note, I'm coming from a 560 and in WoW I'm now sitting at ~50-57fps in a city with a okay amount of people around, and in 25m raids I drop to ~40-47fps on medium graphic fights. Out in the world I'm around ~89-96fps. These numbers don't seem too much higher than what I was getting on the 560, maybe ~10-15fps difference in every setting I listed.

Now, the other issue is my 1440p monitor will be here any day, am I going to notice even more of a drop or what? These are with all settings at Ultra in Windowed, Fullscreen mode with 1x multisampling.

These numbers are about the same in Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 and FFXIV. So did I still get a good, solid card or did I just waste the money on a monitor and a subpar card? I took about a week to two weeks looking at the 770 and 780 and now I don't really know if I made the right choice. I was planning on buying BF4 when it came out to give it a shot, but now I'm having doubts it'll work right.

A GTX 770 should blow away a 560. Perhaps go into the NVidia display settings and change the power management mode to prefer maximum performance? Also V-Sync could be limiting your frames as well. I bet your GPU usage is around 50% during play if not less right now. Do you have afterburner or precision installed?

I do have precision installed. And I do have vsync disabled so I can see what it actually gets up to just to see how much of an improvement it is.

I'm not really worried about the noise btw.

return and get a 780

or use evga step up program for 780

overclock your cpu to at least over 4.0 with sufficient cooling

How heavily is your i5 clocked? WOW is one of those games that heavily loads a single thread and higher overclocked CPU's tend to help. I personally have a 780 and an i5 and in WOW at 1440p everything at ultra(Windowed Fullscreen) I can hold a constant 60 fps with Vsync except in cities. Whenever there is an FPS drop its due to my CPU not my GPU power in WOW.

Also 10-15 FPS over 60 is still around a 20% increase in FPS

Most MMOs are bottlenecked by CPU more than GPU. Especially when there are other players on your screen. I don't know much specifically about WoW, but I know I read and heard about people with decent rigs having to turn down graphics setting for raids.

BTW, I got the Galaxy 770 for the price tag.

I'll try overclocking my cpu a bit more, I have a Hyper 212+ on it so cooling shouldn't be an issue until 4.8ghz+.

I doubt that an i5 2500K is bottlenecking performance...especially on WoW My i7 960 with HT off handled my 780 fine. Something is restricting performance software wise. What is your GPU usage in precision during play?

Just for reference my 2500k is at 4.7ghz and still bottlenecks my 780 in certain areas in major cities in WOW ( I only raid 10 man although never noticed an issue in LFR). Drops in FPS may also be related to internet connections although the only evidence I have is anecdotal I just feel like when I'm tethering through my phone instead of my direct router connection that I get lower FPS(or maybe I just look for it more :/ )

I forgot that they have a new expansion out...might be a bit more demanding now than it was before. I never had those issues when I played a few years back when cataclysm came out...frames never really dropped on my 960 and GTX 470s.
