UpGrade Time again

Thread Starter
Hey guys, it's that time of the year again for me where I get a little extra $$ for upgrades and what not and I was considering a switch over to Intel for better performance in 3D rendering. I use my pc as a work station to work from home doing 3D work on autocad, 3ds max with v-ray, Photoshop, indesign, illustrator, etc. I also plan on using the pc for math programs once I get into my concentration courses for electrical engineering.

I was considering an intel 3820 with an asus p9x79 board, or an intel 3770k with an asus p8z77 board, or should I stick with what I have and upgrade something else on my current build? Any other suggestions are welcome. My budget is around $600 US. I would prefer buying from tigerdirect because I have a local store and I can get free shipping here in Puerto Rico if they don't have it in-store.

I'm not unhappy with the performance of my 8350 but if I can I would like to get something that is overall more solid and reliable.

If I do switch, would I need better ram or could I recycle the ones I currently own?
Please don't suggest a graphic card upgrade, that's not what I'm looking for in terms of an upgrade.
Thanx.

how about a haswell 4770k and a board like mine? that would come in under $600, and your ram should work just fine.

if you are into overclocking, i have my 4770k at 4.6ghz 1.279vcore (pretty low for a haswell) with a CM hyper 212 evo cooler. as far as comparing chips go, the 3770k OC to 4.8 - 5.0ghz is about the same performance as a 4770k OC to 4.6, my chip still has more headroom, and stays within good temps right now, i bet i could get it up to 4.8, just havent had time to.

edit: my cpu is 4770k and motherboard is MSI z87 mpower
