Sweet old lady needs a game. - Page 2

While using a mouse and a keyboard isn't an issue for us, it gets to be an issue with arthritis and failing eye-sight. A touch-based interface is a better way to go.

I agree with the tablet remark. I think that would be the best option here. Just install some games and the only thing she needs to do is press the icon.

My mom is the worst in the world at using computers, but she is so hooked on roads of rome. I think its on facebook but also a flash game that is easy to get to.

Oh lord...You might want to stick with putting card games directly on the desktop. Everything should be directly on the desktop, no log in or internet required.

My grandmother is very good with computers for her age (old lol) But that doesn't stop the internet from being a madhouse to her. Whenever I go over, I have to remove about 20 adware programs/viruses.

My baba has the whole Hoyle series on her computer, links from the desktop and stuff. So those are good.

OP, my grandpa would get the same way because grandma was away in assisted living, what I thought were fun games weren't always that fun for grandpa, he loved solitaire to no end, I think he played solitaire at least 1-2 hours a day, older people like big icons, no logins, no profiles, they just want to start it simply and quickly. The games most times don't have to be crazy, crossword puzzles were a big hit on the pc, just get a windows 7 pc with huge icons on the desktop and shortcuts, or you could also setup start-up programs to automatically load when they fire up the computer, I did that for solitaire it would pop up automatically every time the computer started. Good Luck and remember, respect your elders, they grew up in a different time just like we will be when our grandchildren are chilling with us.

If there was a PS3 involved, I would have recommended Journey in a heartbeat. Have you thought about the Sims maybe? I personally dislike the franchise, but I know a good amount of elderly ladies that absolutely adore the game. It could be worthwhile to give it a try.

Great advice everybody, much thanks!

I ended up getting her a tablet with a ton of card game apps and a Facebook app.

She's really happy now! Doesn't cry at all and I've seen her smiling much more with the neighbors.
She's even been walking a little around the neighborhood again!

Thanks again! biggrin.gif +Rep to all.
