No sound from sound card - Page 2

The only thing DX does is compress the 5.1 signal to a size that can be used with optical cable (optical can only transfer uncompressed 2.0 signal).

I just learned that the headset I'm using, Astro A40s, don't even support 7.1 and only 5.1, what a load of crap :/
I need to ditch these soon and get a dedicated can, or I can find one that has 7.1

So in short, I should just use my headset connected directly to the sound card instead of using it with the mixamp. Correct?
The mixamp just degrades my sound quality because it's using a compressed and not true 5.1?

Basicly, anything the mixamp can do, the DX can do better, only thing you gain from the mixamp if im not mistaken, is the volume control knob on the actual unit

Well, if you like Dolby Headphones like I do then the DX wins. If you dislike the Dolby Headphones then the mixamp wins.
If you don't use surround sound, DX wins.

So yeah, basicly the DX wins, because anything the Astro mixamp can do, the DX can do aswell, and better (they both use dolby for everything, no?)

So my thought that using the mixamp with the sound card would have the pros of the sound card just with the added bonus of having the volume knob is wrong right?

Not sure which surround tech the mixamp uses (dolby?).
I recommend to test it yourself if there are any differences between DX vs Mixamp.

I use my keyboard for controlling volume. G110 has a good volume knob and G105 has macros set up for that.

Yea the mixamp uses dolby, but the sound card does too correct?

I guess I'll try to listen to both and see what the difference are, but to me it seems like the mixamp just has the added bonus of the voice mixer and audio knob.
