Dust filter studies?

post #1 of 9

Does anyone know of articles that have done tests of dust filters.

Just buy a Demciflex and call it a day. Seriously.

Best. Friggin'. Filters. Ever.

You can also get them to custom manufacture a filter to perfectly fit your needs if they don't stock one that will. Which is rare. Great prices too, most under 18 dollars. I don't know what I'd do without them. If your case is made of steel they'll stick right to it since they're magnetised, too!

I noticed silverstone now has newer filters without the plastic framing in the middle.

FF122 = 120mm with plastic framing

* chinese review http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Farticle.pchome.net%2Fcontent-1447654-1.html

FF141 = 140mm with plastic framing

FF142 = 2x 140mm with plastic framing
^ I think it is used on Redline RL02 , RL03 , RL04 cases

FF123 = 120mm , thinner "ultra fine"

FF143 = 140mm, thinner "ultra fine"

The price markup on these screens is obscene. All they are is fine fiberglass mesh window screen material. Problem is that you can only get large rolls of it at the hardware store. When I was still doing 'old time' chemical photography I made a bunch of print drying screens with the material (unfortunately they were thrown out some time ago). If you have a computer club it might make sense to buy a roll (60 inch x 25 feet) for about $30 US and cut your own filters. Some small magnets will hold them nicely in place on a steel case.

Does someone know the micron count of the mesh they use. I don't want to buy their one-size-fits-all stick-on filters, I just need the mesh so I can modify my case-specific Silverstone filters.

I'm presuming that the demciflex mesh is the same ultra fine, low resistance polypropylene mesh they use in clothes dryers - you guys know what I'm talking about? That stuff is perfect.

Don't know about the count for demciflex. Clothes dryer filters do not have as fine a mesh as the newer window screen materials.

Put it this way, the filter on a demciflex doesn't look like a mesh. It looks almost like a solid piece of transparent fabric. The mesh on it is so fine it's insane, but you blow on it and it's like there's nothing in the way. Finer than clothes dryers.
