Dilemma

I was in a store lately and checked out phones. I really try to like it, but the large phones are not for me. I need something compact like iPhone 5 or S4 mini. Just like that.
The smaller phones are older and crappy, new phones are oversized. S4 mini is recent and has the perfect size and seems a good phone overall.

This whole size race actually makes me think about getting an iPhone. eek.gif That cheaper plastic iPhone 5C, that is supposed to be announced, hopefully running iOS 7, looks like it could be an option. I like the iOS 7 previews really, but I'd probably still prefer Android.

I probably should wait for the announcements from Apple, Motorola and Google that will be happening in the next months, but I have little faith that there will be something smaller inbound. Motorola has the droid mini, but whether such thing will be available in Europe is hard to say. Also I get really harsh reviews about the Motorola camera on the new droid phones and a good camera is kind of a key point for me. Nexus 5 will be probably a giant that I will not like to carry around.

Dilemma.

To cut to the chase. I have this crazy idea. Not a big fan of Samsung and especially their crappy touchwiz thing, but I do love their phone design. The S4 is really slick and the mini gets good reviews. Is supposed to have a good camera and I appreciate that they still have removable battery and a SD card slot.

However, I hate touchwiz, so I actualy think to get a S4 mini and turn it into a google edition (and wish I could remove the ugly Samsung logo, too). I know it is possible on the S4, so I guess it's the same thing for the mini?
I know I'll lose warranty, but what worries me are the implications. Is it even legal? Will I be able to update and install all the apps and stuff? In a youtube video the guy put version 4.3 on it and as far as I know only the Nexus has that version so far. Does it mean that a google edition will get the updates as soon as the nexus, or do people hack and crack the last version and I have to be shady to update it?

I'd really love me a legit google edition, with legit updates and app installs and all this and the S4 mini seems to be good hardware for this.

I know it is wiser to wait the 2 months to see what is being announced, but I have little faith and finally want a new phone. I do lots of SMS typing lately and doing it with the keys on my cell phone is a test. Need to get rid of that.

Dilemma solved, sort of. Ordered me a S4 Mini and will put stock Android ROM on it.

Put CyanogenMod 10.1 on it. So much better than touchwiz.

That phone belongs to me alone. biggrin.gif

Finding good back covers is nearly impossible. I guess to early, given the recent release of the phone.
