Wireless Horror

My wireless internet is so horrible it just makes me want to cry...

I'm using a ZyXEL X-550 MIMO 108 Mb/s wireless router (insanely good router) and the Asus Solo-AP WiFi adapter...

Here's some results through my Cat5 and GigaBit LAN:

Here's my Wireless with the Antennae about 2" away from each other (for the test):

Thoose test cannot be right though... With every other Test site I get difference from 5 Mb/s with my Cat5 to 2.5 Mb/s with the WiFi

Lan:

Wifi:

Cat5:
All sites register the Upload to be about 360 kb/s
All Sites register about 4.4 Mb/s to 5.4 Mb/s
Registers %99 Quality of Service
1621.6 kbps on Cnet test

Wifi:
All sites register the Upload to be about 360 kb/s
All sites other than SpeakEasy.net register Download to be 2 Mb/s - 3 Mb/s
Registers abou %50 Quality of Service
1186.7 kbps on Cnet test

Sites used:

http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
http://www.speedtest.net/

Ok now... These are the test with the Wireless Antennae almost touching each other (a few inches away... best connection I could get (%92))

Do you think my 54 Mb/s Wireless card (Asus Solo) is limiting my connection speed?

I have WPA-Personal (WPA2) AES Encryption...
Super G with Dynamic Turbo
Channel 6
54 [108] Mbit/s (IDK why it's 54 and 108???)

Would taking off Turbo help???
Would WEP with MAC filtering help???

Should I buy a 108 Mb/s Bridge (not really many cards with x64 support)

What's my best way of improving speeds???

My sister on her laptop that also has a 54 Mb/s Internal card gets the same results...

I do notice that I get about the same results from 2" as 50', but why so slow... half the speed can't be distance limitation, it must be the 54 Mb/s hardware right?

I really dont know whats hapenning...

Right now I'm running at the 2 Mb/s - 3 Mb/s while wired...

For some reason it seems that my modem is putting my GigaBit lan at 10 Mb/s... and while I had my wired through the router (which I sent back for RMA today) it ran 100 Mb/s and got 5.2 Mb/s on the test...

So since it's a Megabit problem, could possibly my Wireless part of the router isn't running up to the 54 Mb/s and it's just throughputting 10 Mb/s...

I have no idea what is happening... Supposedly I try putting a router in before my wireless router... this is making me mad, I made a computer to game on, and all I'm getting is crappy connections, but the speed of my internet is indeed great... I have no idea what my computers problem is... My mom seems to think I made a "bad" computer, but then again, she thinks the XP login screen has to do with AOL, and often asks me to turn on the computer for her she's a little special

Those throughput speeds don't seem odd. Encryption can decrease speed but it's a good thing to have so leave it on.

The speed that the router supports and the speed of your personal network have nothing to do with your internet connection. A router that is capable of 100 Mbps doesn't mean it has a 100 Mbps connection to the internet. Your ISP controls your internet speed.

The fact that your sister's laptop has the same results should be a sign that either your wireless connection is about right or the router may not be up to the task. You RMAed the router so try the tests again with the new router.

Well, I am a network tech, so I know the capabilities of routers, isp's, and whatnot, but I know the router had to be defective...

With WPA2, WPA, WEP, and None for encryption it all ran the same speed... It's just something was capping the wireless speed, it's all very weird...

It had to be someone wrong with the router, because I was receiving packet loss with the router's antennae and my wireless cards antenna being very close together...

Yeah, like I said, I suspect the router just couldn't handle what you wanted.

I suggest you go with a Linksys if you want to get a new router. But that's my preference because mine is flashed with custom firmware and allows for all sorts of customization.

Well it's a ZyXEL, which I've had all but great luck with, so I would suppose since it's there Top wireless G router that it must've just been defective...

My download with my P5B Deluxe is 2019 kbps and upload is 420 kbps.

Ping = 68 ms.

I don't really have a problem.
