Any incentive to buy GTX 670 or GTX 680?

Thread Starter
Obviously the 7950 is almost equal to a 670 at stock and can beat it in the OC department, same goes for the 7970 and 680. They also have 3GB as opposed to only 2GB, they come with three free games of your choice(in a selection of 10). I ask honestly, is there any reason to even consider buying the GTX 670 or 680 when the competition offers equal performance for much much less money? I'm a big EVGA fan and they're the only reason I haven't grabbed a 7950 or 7970 yet. I'm waiting for the 9000 series to roll out and hopefully, the 600-700 series will see a drop in price to compete with them.

Right now, I see absolutely no reason to buy a 670 or 680.

GTX 760- Much less expensive than 670 and only slightly less powerful. Can even match it.

GTX 770- Slightly more powerful than a 7970/680 and has much better resale value.

GTX 780- No other option at that price point.

GTX Titan: See above.

Ive always owned Nvidia and when I was upgrading I was planning on staying with Nvidia but I ended up buying a 7950 because it was just no contest for that kind of value. Could not of been happier with my 7950.

Well the 670 and 680 are a generation old at this point. Of course, the 7xx series is simply a refresh with a slightly re-engineered memory structure in the case of the 680/770 and some jockeying around with clocks at the other price points.

So, yes, you would be correct to say that the 670 and 680 don't have much going for them at this time. They are still massively powerful cards, though.

GTX 780 - £560
GTX 770 - £360
MSI GTX 680 lightning editions - £260.

Plenty of incentive for me to have bought the two I did before they ran out.

The 770 is just a rebadged 680 with faster ram, and two 680s beat a single 780.

Also GTX 670s went as low as £161 on the offers, and 4 Gb 670s for £220, and 4 Gb 680s for £299.

I was on the fence about the same thing, a 7 series or two 680s would be the way to go

In the UK the price war between Overclockers UK and Scan has resulted in the following below £240 delivered with free games at the moment:

Asus GeForce GTX 680 DirectCU II OC NVIDIA Graphics Card - 2GB
MSI GeForce GTX 680 Twin Frozr OC NVIDIA Graphics Card - 2GB
MSI Twin Frozr III R7970 TF 3GD5/OC Boost Edition - 3GB

All of these would blow the similar priced GTX 760 out of the water and as the cheapest GTX 770 is £60 more (standard cooler) and up to £90 more for bespoke cooling like the above.
