Radiator flow

Hi all. In need of help. I'm planning on using 2 rads connected together by hoses. See PIC for illustration.

280 mm rad is Alphacool Nexxos UT60 - top of case
140 mm rad is Alphacool Nexxos UT60 - back of case

My question is, will it work? Will it flow through both rads before heading back down to the CPU?

Hmm, hard to understand your illustration. As for how to connect your waterloop, the only important thing is to have the pump directly after and lower than the reservoir, rest in not important.

Case is a Bitfenix Prodigy. The rear exhaust fan will be fitted with a 140mm Alphacool Nexxos UT60 connected directly to the top mounted radiator which is a 280mm Alphacool Nexxos UT60. The top mounted rad is them connected to the CPU block.

Illustration:

The green boxes are the rads. The red lines are the coolant lines.

My question is pertaining to the flow between the 2 rads. Will the coolant flow through both rads before flowing back down:p to the CPU block? As the coolant line between the rads and the coolant line heading to the CPU is in the same rad head block(Alphacool Nexxos UT60 has multiple headers on the same block). The CPU line is flowing downwards and the rad to rad line is flowing horizontally.

Will it impede the rad to rad coolant exchange and therefore make 1 of the rads redundant?

Im sorry i still have problems understanding your problem, if u using 2 rads and one CPU block i would suggest:

Out Reservoir -> In Pump -> Out Pump -> In 140 -> Out 140 -> In 280 -> Out 280 -> In CPU -> Out CPU -> In Reservoir

Okay, Basically what he (^) is saying is that Loop order does not matter and long as your pump is directly after you reservoir. The coolant will flow the way you want it as long as you get the inlets and outlets correct.

No it won't make one of the Radiators redundant. If you have everything hooked up properly nothing will be redundant and all will function nicely. Thats the joys of WC. Nothing really matters other than Res > Pump order.

P.S the 'hose' in your illustration is called tubing haha biggrin.gif

I take it by this question that your a bit confused about the whole idea? PM me if you need to offload some questions or confused queries

Yes. I'm a little confused/hesitant. I'm thinking that if I merged the 2 rads via the tubing (both inlet and outlet) and have another tubing heading to the CPU block flowing downwards (on the same rad header block), fluid dynamics/gravity would push the coolant from the 140 rad straight back down to the CPU block rather than going in the 280 rad then to the CPU block.

I'm trying to minimise the number of tubing through the case whilst using both rads effectively.

My plan is:

140 in > 280 in ---|
140 out > 280 out---| >CPU block> ram block> res/pump> 280 in

I'll see if I can get on photoshop to draw/explain it out better. I'm on a tablet.

Just go from one component to next, ie only use 1 inlet and 1 outlet for rads. Any extra connection of rads will just worsen performance, and may short circuit areas of higher resistance, as water takes path of least resistance.

This is what I was asking and was afraid of. Routing tubing in a tight case + aesthetics/symmetry is gonna be an issue.

I'll go research some more for rads with inlet/outlets on both ends...

Back to the drawing board for now... Thanks all!

I dont know your level of Physics but I presume you know the difference between Series and Parrallel...
I think what your trying to explain here is you want to put the radiators in parallel to try and balance the Radiator flow? Honestly, trying to balance flow between the 2 lines is EXTREMELY difficult. You would benefit most from series, regardless of order of components. The only way parallel would be beneficial is if you had 2 pumps coming off the res, or dual output pump. But then we are back to the single vs dual loop consideration. Go series. Lol... Its a lot easier.

Okay, so with that aside with the Ut60 it may seem confusing ( trust me - I was confused when I first got mine) but you can only use 2 of the inlets or oulets on the ut60 but you can choose any of the pairs next to each other depending on which way you orientate it - The one solo one at the end is usually used as a drain port by the way

So in series it would go Reservoir > Pump > 140 inlet > 140 outlet > 280 inlet > 280 outlet > cpu block > ram block and then back around

If you tell me what your case is I might be able to help out with Diagrams and tubing layouts etc. I know how you feel about trying to get the cleanest loop.
Its all about planning.
