Buy a second GTX 580 or not ?

Hi guys

I curently have a Gainward GTX 580 phantom 3gb and since it is not performing as great in new games i'm thinking of going SLI. Now i found a really great deal for the same kind of GTX 580 as i have for about 200 punds with shipping included. Now i want to know if my Corsair AX 850 watt power supply could handle both graphics cards ? My Cpu is at stock speed, and both graphics cards would run on stock speeds. Also should i sell my GTX 580 and buy a 680 or 780 ?. MY main games that i play are Assassin's creed games ( love the story and graphics) A little BF3 and some of the new games.

Your AX850 would run fine even with OC on both the GPU's and the CPU. If i were you, i'd sell the GTX 580 and get the GTX 780 or wait till October to see how the red cards do and then decide. Adding another 580 would get you the performance of close to a GTX 780/Titan, but at significant heat and power consumption (obvously, if money is of no object). It would also keep future upgrade options open since you'd have the ability to add another card in the future should you decide to add another monitor.

Well i wouldn't buy it for GBP 200. If you are ready top shell out 200 GBP for a card now, i'd suggest to let go your current 580. Get this instead. A great card for 1080p. Also, if you do not mind the red side, i'd suggest this which has load of overclocking potential and is rather more future proof. Also, both of these would be significant upgrade over your single 580

Yea i was thinking about buying the 770 or the 780 or from the amd side the 7970. But since the 580 is 200 pounds with shipping wouldnt it pay off ? I dont really worry about temp since my gtx 580 doesnt go above 70 degrees celcius with the fans running at 60-70%. And since my psu can handle it.

I doubt you'd be able to max out pretty much any game coming out in the near future even with SLI'd 580 on 3 1080p monitors. At 5760x1080, you'd still be left with 3GB VRAM but you'd be out of GPU horsepower. This is an old review, but shows how even SLI'd 580's perform once you increase the resolution against the competition.
