Another 7970, 7950 and 7870 Question

Hi I dont wanna thread jack but i have a similar question so i thought id ask

Would a crossfire 7950 be better at gaming (fps like bf3 or bf4 or crysis 3)
http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1157&pid=1547&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

7970 6gig

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1157&lid=1&pid=1497

However i did see a review saying the 7970 3 gig was better for 1080p or 1440 and the 6 gig is mainly for multi monitors but the review was 18months old

I currently have a 7870 xt over clocked 1200/1500mhz (+20v) via trixx software would it just slow down a 7950? or 7970 3 gig? or 6 gig?

I can get the SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 OC with Boost VAPOR-X for $308AUD (keep in mind aussie dollar isnt doing too well)
I can get the SAPPHIRE HD 7970 GHz Edition 6GB GDDR5 VAPOR-X for $650 but rumor to be onsale for $612 next month

My system specs should be in signature, also let me know if my Mother board may need upgrading. I read that pci 3.0 doesnt have a huge boost in games yet (my mb is pci 2) but would like to know if the new gpu is 384 -bit is my board able to cope or is it limited to 256 - bit? couldnt find on asus or in manual.

If you game on 1080p, you should just get another 7870 xt to xfire it.

your 7870 should be maxing out BF3 using 1080 BUT - you need to oc your cpu to 4GHz. it helps.

that 7870 is as fast as a 7950 rightnow.

edit: if it is for your sig (1050T), i would not crossfire the 7950 with it. 2cents.gif even at 4GHz.

it doesn't max out on bf3 on high it is around 40-50fps ultra it can drop as low as 20fps. hence why I'm keen to try crossfire as bf4 is hungrier.( so I'm guessing)

I cannot find another 7870xt (they are different to 7870) there are some on eBay for ridiculous money. and the 7950 oc ghz vapor x is $309, $57 more than what I paid for my 7870 xt (they come with 3 free games as well)

Are you saying my processor won't cut it? oven overclocked to 4ghz? so perhaps consider the 8350fx would that mean ill need a new mb aswell?

20? no way! is the cpu oc'ed to 4GHz?

i can max out BF3 with my thuban at 4 and the 7950 at stock. same exact settings as my i7 and 7970 using 1080.

i have not tried xfire (7900s) on my amd rig 'cause i know it will struggle. even my i7 at 4.5 struggled to push both gpus (7950/7970) at their stock clocks, although, it held up.

edit: make sure the thuban is oc'ed to 4GHz stable first 'cause it might be throttling or the board itself might be throttling. turn off all power saving mode in bios such as C1E and Cool & Quiet. Set your window's power option to High performance.

check this giude out . . .

http://www.overclock.net/t/777378/official-gappos-little-deneb-thuban-overclocking-guide-with-too-many-smileys

the same with the gpu. check the core and vrms temps using HwInfo64

http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

makes sure the temps do not go over 80C. 55C for the CPU core (socket) playing BF3. Let HwInfo run in the background during the game and check after.

I'm pretty sure I had the boost or turbo cores at 4.15ghz. the overclock was 3.5 on 6 core, and boost just 3 cores. bus speed was 250mhz

I will play it again not sure was as settings where but I know on tomb raider was averaging 40 on ultra

if I need a new mb and CPU that's basically a new building ( as in it just keep on going)

i'd turn off turbo as well. not sure if you have a black edition or unlocked multiuplier. i'd just set the oc using either the multiplier or the fsb. take time to read the guide.

Brings me to the question. would crossfire 7870 xt x2 or crossfire 7870 xt with 7950 or 7950 x2 give me the same performance as a gtx 770 or gtx 780?
afaik, you can't xfire 7870 with 7950. an overclocked 7950 (better chance if voltages are unlocked) can match a stock 770.

a 7950 at only 1100/1575 matches a 7970 GHz already. here . . .

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7021432

most 7950s will do that no sweat.

edit: 2 7950 will surpass a 780.
