Windows 8 Volume Slider Stuck

Thread Starter
So I just installed Windows 8. When I plug in my headphones the slider pops up. It doesn't go away and I can't move the volume. It just goes right back up to full. Any ideas on how to fix this? It's really bothering me redface.gif
This isn't my picture but you get the idea:

have you tried a different headphone port? or do your headphones have volume control? have you tried other headphones?

what troubleshooting steps have you taken, I have been using windows 8 (now 8.1) on my desktop since I built it, and on my laptop since a month before the final release (MSDN account gets new ms operating systems a month before release) and haven't seen this issue yet
