So, since I run 16:10, it isn't considered HD? Or is it still alright since its bigger than 16:9?

I'm running somthing like 1208 by 1024 or something around those numbers ( very very close), Someone said that if your running greater that 720 lines or something on a screan, then your HD? Is this true? And am I running HD? DO I have to change a setting on my card?

It's still HD but technically it doesn't conform to HDTV standards. It doesn't matter, it's still HD.

Exactly my opinion. If you're PC resolution is set to display at least 720 lines, then you will have an HD quality display. Widescreen monitors are not the norm for PC gamers, so I don't think this should be an issue anyone should be splitting hairs over. We know it's not HDTV...it's a PC game, not TV. And as soon as we PC gamers bump our 4:3 aspect ratio monitor up to 1600x1200, we've left HDTV resolutions in the dust.

Again, let's not split hairs. It is HD quality, probably greater HD quality. It does not conform to the HDTV standards. Who cares, it's not a TV. I mean, what next...are we going to start bickering about whether we're playing in "full HD", like Sony wants everyone to believe is the only "HD" that matters?

As I said, my advice to all PC gamers is to not pay one whit of attention to the "HD" moniker. It is a TV thing, not a PC thing.

Well said Vulcan!

Console + TV are a whole different ball park. This one is about "Buzz" words ie, HD Ready etc.

PC = HD anyway, to be honest anything over 1024x768 i would consider HD. So what if it is not Widescreen it is still displaying a picture wiht higher definition than 720p.

And i think the most important thing to consider is that TV HD will be viewed at around 2m, however PC is more like 0.3 - 0.5m.

We need higher resolutions as we are closer if that makes any sense, whats the point of so much detail if we cant make it out unless we stand next to the damn thing.

Hope you take my points onboard

The only reason that the "HD" label exists is that standards are needed in the TV world. Since every HD camera and every HDTV needs to work on the same few resolutions two of the three resolutions are labeled high definition and one is labeled standard resolution. Given the flexibility of PC's - these labels are unnecessary. Since you can display in any resolution we don't need to separate a couple into the HD and a couple into the SD categories. If you want a cutoff for HD though - say that anything over 720p is HD.

does it really matter? as long as your running a high resolution with good contrast and good color, it should end up looking like hd .

Good Point... I haven't seen actually TRUE HDTV but only a couple times in my life for more than an hour... so I can't set the standard of HD for me.

If I can read it, and it looks appeasing to the eye, then its good enough for me
