Safely switching out a motherboard for another of a different model

Thread Starter
I've had some issues with my PC that I believe are motherboard related, so my plan is now to replace it for another. I've heard that there are some conflicts that can arise when you switch it out for a different motherboard entirely such as the computer not booting up or things not being recognized, etc., so what do I need to do to make sure it all goes down smoothly? Reformat my HD, backup my files, etc.? Definitely don't want to screw anything up.

It's a lot to cover, make sure the new board is compatible with the CPU, watch some videos of how to replace a motherboard on youtube to get the gist of it.
Get an anti-static bracelet and make sure everything is connected properly. Pay attention to the ram orientation, everything should fit easily without any need to force it in place. And yes, you should back up your data before starting it and reformatting it once the new mobo is up and running.
If by some reason, it doesn't boot right away, you should:
1 - Clear the CMOS
2 - Trying one stick of ram at a time
3 - Strip down to the essentials, mobo, cpu, one stick of ram and use the onboard GPU to try and isolate the problem.

But first, why do you think your issues are motherboard related?
