We need HDMI 3.0 then.

It is a great step up but 60fps will not even be enough for the high refresh rate TVs that will be released.

60fps at 4k is a very large increase though, so thats something. It also means we will have support for 3D 1080p @ 120Hz which is also great. And even better, 2560x1440 @ 120hz over HDMI for monitors biggrin.gif

Anyone else think 32 audio channels is just way too much? Even 13.2 surround audio was overkill, to increase it beyond is just crazy.

There you go, over 60FPS. It's legit. tongue.gif

You forgot audio.

Edit:
Actually a little more to HDMI 2.0 Specs:
Maximum Clock Rate: 600 MHz (was 340)
Maximum TMDS Throughput Per Channel: 6 Gbit/s (including overhead) / Was 3.4
Maximum total TMDS throughput: 18 Gbit/s (including overhead 8b/10b) / Was 10.2
Maximum actual Throughput: 14.4 Gbit/s (overhead removed) / was 8.16
Maximum audio: 36.86 Mbit/s / same
Maximum Color Depth: 48bit per pixel, / same

8b/10b overhead is from encoding the signal and ECC. Seems like a very steep overhead to me.

Good news though, it does support 2560x1600 @ 109 FPS, perhaps slightly less.

I am also not quite convinced of 60 FPS. @ 32bpp, it is only 54 FPS. 24bpp is 72 FPS.

I honestly believe we are being lied to.

HDMI 2.0 can't do 3180x2160 @ 60 FPS @ 32bpp, it will have to be less somewhere. Either in the framerate or the bits per pixel.

The alpha channel is meaningless outside of the rendering device. Standard full color is 8 bits per subpixel / 24 bits per pixel.
Is that mean I have a 240hz 52" Sony tv and I can only pull 60fps when I conected my pc with today's latest hdmi cable and when I run games in 3d I can only do 720p @60 hz or 24hz at 1080p
So my question is if I get hdmi 2.0 I will be able to go HIGHER than 60fps and may be 3D at 1080p would be 60 FPS instead of 24?

You also forget that the people who are going to jump on 4K monitors NOW rather than later are those exact same people who have multiple cards and are going to be able to run over 60 fps at 4K. That said, I don't see HDMI 2.0 as the savior of high bandwidth monitor IO for computers. I expect a newer version of display port to feature enough bandwidth for 120hz 4K, since they're currently able to support 60fps @ 4K.

The point is DVI-D / Display Port / Thunderbolt etc.. are the 'type' of connection most people would probably use for a 4K PC monitor. HDMi is aimed at the general consumer and TV. Hence most people (outside of OCN and including most PC gamers) Wont have the kind of PC suitable for 4K gaming attached to their shiny new TV at 60FPS let alone 120FPS (which is why they probably havent pushed for 60hz / 120hz support)

the typical foibles associated with HDMi where by when running through a TV the signal tends to pass through a video DAC introduced lag where are DP / DVI and other forms of computer monitor equipment take pretty much direct feeds.

if people want to use 4k as a TV and sit far back then the fonts/icons and programs wont be easily visible and no matter what people say windows 7 /8 doesnt always scale properly and neither will the HUD running a current gen game... which will be made for console with a 720p/1080p HUD and ported to PC. If your intention is to use as a Monitor then you have to sit close and want that direct connection at 60FPS you will need the hardware (lots of it to run ultra on new games) and a good direct signal with less lag..

IMO display port will be the thing PC gamers want at 4K and having it plugged into a 4K monitor not a 4K TV with all its useless faff and processing
