It is true that most TVs run at most 60hz natively and have software/hardware to create the smooth motion to trick people that it's running at 120-240hz or higher. I used to work in the A/V dept of Frys so I learned quite a bit about TVs there from Samsung/Sony reps that came time to time.

yes. The TV has a processor that calculates an imagine in-between two images of the source material. So in a second time frame, there might have been 60 frames sent by the source, but the TV also drew frames between each from to link them together, resulting in perceived 120fps.

Those calculations are 100% accurate though and can cause some artifacts.

I would like to confirm that this wont change anything anytime soon even after
They release it.
This is due to there not being transceiver chips to convert it to v-by-one yet and of course the fact that there are no capable timing controllers for mini-lvds.

I really wonder why no-one seems interested in making a cable with enough bandwidth for some futureproofing. Had Displayport been 80ish Gbps anything with that would have been compatible with displays for decades. Instead it's barely any better than DVI-D (which can push my 2560x1440 Catleap to 110hz).
Same thing here, they took the bare minimum rather than trying to make something people can buy with confidence knowing it won't be obsolete in 5-10 years.

works better these days now a lot of channels are HD and the processor doesn't have to contend with Mpeg blocking distractions as much

black frame insertion is also a common technique used.

Cost vs need. It takes increasing time and money to develop higher frequency signalling.


Moving from 10MbE to 100MbE and then 100MbE to 1GbE was relatively easy. The transition to 10GbE is vastly more costly. The transistion to 40GbE and 100GbE will be extreme. The hardware to drive and signal processing to account for the noise gets much more complex as frequency increases.


PCIe and SATA could have began with the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps but the cost would be prohibitive for adoption at the time.

You are limited by the length and the processing. 80GB/s is a lot of Data in one second.

...and signaling. Push that much data through copper and getting it to come out on the other side is phenomenally HARD.
