DSLRs are derived from SLRs.... but the question is why does digital hardware have to be based on analogue hardware?
What is a digital camera? Lens + sensor + processor + storage? The smartphone is the processor + storage. The other unit is the lens + sensor.
Modular phones is definitely a better means of an approach of offering better camera quality out of the devices, that's for sure!
Frankly, modular phones does seem to be the "future" of modern phone design. We some companies offering numerous customization options for their phones, this seems like the next natural transition. You'll have your base phone that has compartments to have them upgraded or offered when you purchase the phone from the retailer. You can get the base model or spend an extra hundred or so and grab the phone with 1 [in] sensor on the back with the detachable lens. This would be good for most phone manufacturers as well, they could keep the same base model for the phone while offering 4 different versions of the same thing to cater to all price brackets/consumer demands.
This is innovation that we need to see in the phone industry. Not the other crap like we see...
I'd love to have one of these puppies shoved on my phone. It be nice to take on trips; especially whenever I go out paintballing. Moments where you just want an hour break, you just conveniently whip your phone out, slab this puppy on, and start taking pictures of the event instead of carrying around an extra camera.Edited by Domino - 9/4/13 at 8:29pm
